So far, more than 85 initiatives have received approval, with allocations exceeding $100,000.
During the previous summer, a congregation at St. Andrew UMC was moved by a sermon and set out to inspire others to make a positive impact in the world. They pledged $166,000 over three summers as matching funds to motivate church members to launch hands-on projects that serve the community beyond the church’s confines. Thus, Spark Tank was established. Last summer alone, 72 initiatives were executed, utilizing $69,000 in matching funds. As of this summer, over $100,000 has already been distributed for 85 projects.
“Understanding that we have the capacity to bring about change in others’ lives is fundamental to our influence in the community,” stated Jimmy Decker, associate pastor at St. Andrew. “Transforming the world begins with changing lives one at a time.”
“Spark Tank encourages individuals to seek out ways to enhance the well-being of those around them in meaningful yet manageable ways,” remarked Heather Davis, Chair of the Spark Tank Committee. “Every week, as we gather to review the submitted projects, we experience joy in knowing that the St. Andrew congregation is making a significant positive impact on our community.”
