Focus on Light Farms

Light Farms in Celina emphasizes a commitment to promoting healthy living through community initiatives.

Starting March 21st, families from Prosper, Frisco, and Celina will have the opportunity to participate in a new Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, which will deliver fresh, organic produce weekly to Light Farms. This initiative is spearheaded by Holistic Nutritionist Leslie Typrin, a Northern California native who relocated to the Light Farms neighborhood in Celina last year. With a background in catering and environmental science, Typrin’s journey into holistic nutrition arose from personal struggles, including postpartum depression and digestive challenges. It was during her son’s preschool days that she stumbled upon a local organic CSA program.

“I noticed a significant improvement in how I felt by choosing whole foods that are minimally processed and grown without pesticides or chemicals. This realization sparked my passion for making healthy eating accessible to everyone,” Typrin shared. “I firmly believe that everyone can gain from consuming food cultivated sustainably and organically, directly from farms. Here in Texas, we’re fortunate to have numerous small producers and growers dedicated to providing ‘real food’ through farmers markets and community food co-ops. When we buy locally, our food has a shorter travel time, reducing its stay in cold storage or on shelves, thus preserving its nutritional value. This also lessens our carbon footprint and bolsters the local economy. It’s beneficial for consumers, local farms, and the environment alike.”

According to Typrin, the main challenge people face in adopting this lifestyle is the time needed to research and shop for healthful foods. “The key is to simplify the process of getting food from farms to those who want it, making healthy eating easier. We are fortunate at Light Farms to have a development group like Republic Property Group (RPG) that encourages and supports a healthy way of life for its residents.”

In collaboration with Travis Selcer and Stephanie Liebbe of Republic Property Group, Typrin has transformed her vision into reality for residents and neighboring communities. Through Johnson’s Backyard Garden (www.jbgorganic.com), organic produce will be delivered to Light Farms every Saturday from 9 AM to 12 PM. Residents and those from surrounding areas like Celina, Prosper, and Frisco can subscribe for one to four “shares” of organic produce, with prices ranging from $22 to $40. Beyond the CSA, Typrin is also assisting residents in establishing a Holistic Food Cooperative and various educational programs at Light Farms. “We plan to offer classes and workshops that promote a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being for our residents. This is a thrilling moment for the Light Farms community; I’m excited to collaborate with RPG on our health and wellness initiatives,” she noted.

“Light Farms is a community that honors Celina’s agricultural roots. It’s truly about building relationships among neighbors,”
