Chris Hahn, the Headmaster of the Prince of Peace Christian School & Early Learning Center (POPCS), has been awarded the 2015 Distinguished Administrator Award by the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA). This recognition celebrates outstanding leadership in music education among private educational institutions throughout Texas.
Each year, TPSMEA invites its members to nominate school administrators—including Principals and Headmasters—who have shown exceptional commitment to fostering and enhancing music education while also demonstrating a broader dedication to the arts. Nominees must exhibit outstanding support for the arts, which includes their approach to program development, understanding of logistical requirements, dedication to teacher professional development, and efforts to secure financial resources.
David Lang, the band director at POPCS, nominated Hahn for this esteemed honor, emphasizing the crucial role that administrative support plays in effective music programs. Lang stated, “Mr. Hahn has been invaluable to our Fine Arts Department at Prince of Peace Christian. He understands the significance of arts in education and has consistently championed our band, theater, choir, and visual arts programs. Thanks to his enthusiasm, our programs have flourished.”
Under Hahn’s leadership, the Fine Arts Center was inaugurated in 2010, featuring a modern 35,000 square foot space that includes a 500-seat theater, band hall, dedicated rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, a costume center, music and choral rooms, as well as an art studio and gallery. Additionally, in the fall of 2014, the music programs were expanded through the acquisition of The Arts School, an after-school initiative offering private lessons in various instruments to around 150 students.
Hahn has been the Headmaster at Prince of Peace since 2003, having begun his tenure at the school as a teacher and coach in 1990.
“Our goal is to nurture and develop the distinctive talents that God has bestowed upon our students,” Hahn remarked. “By fostering these talents, we are able to mentor and challenge our students, instilling in them vital skills such as responsibility, the importance of preparation and practice, and collaborative work—skills that will benefit them well beyond the arts into their adult lives.”
This April, Prince of Peace Christian School will host their annual spring musical, Fiddler on the Roof, with performances scheduled for Friday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. The performances are open for public attendance, with ticket prices ranging from $8 to $15.
