New Beginnings with New Friends

Established in 1998, New Friends New Life (NFNL) originated from a church group’s effort to assist an exotic dancer seeking to leave her profession. Fast forward over fifteen years, the organization now offers educational opportunities, job training, short-term financial support, mental health resources, and spiritual guidance to women and girls who have survived trafficking and sexual exploitation, along with their children.

Contrary to the common belief that human trafficking is primarily a foreign issue, it is, in fact, a significant problem within North Texas. NFNL’s Executive Director, Katie Pedigo, emphasizes, “Texas holds the second highest rank in the nation for human trafficking cases, with about 400 trafficked teens on the streets of Dallas every night.”

On April 10, 2015, NFNL is set to celebrate its 12th Annual WINGS Luncheon, featuring guest speaker Kevin Costner. The appearance of the renowned actor will coincide with the launch of NFNL’s Men’s Initiative, aimed at mobilizing more men to engage in the battle against trafficking.

During 2014, NFNL provided assistance to over 1,100 women, their children, and teens. Pedigo remarks, “We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our community throughout the year and at the annual WINGS luncheon, which empowers girls, women, and children to change their lives.”
